Who Are You When No One's Watching

I want to start with something that took me a long time to understand about myself. I am really good under pressure. Genuinely good. I've spent years working in fast-moving, high-responsibility environments where staying calm, adapting quickly, and supporting people through pressure mattered every day. I've made calls that mattered. I've stayed calm when the room was falling apart around me. And for years, I thought that meant I had good self-awareness. I didn't. What I had was good performance awareness. I knew how to show up in the role. But that is not the same thing as knowing who you actually are — especially when the pressure lifts and it's just you and the quiet.
